Cats are obligate carnivores, they cannot survive on a vegetarian diet,
they need animal proteins.
If you don't like the concept of what an animal eats, don't keep one, be
it a cat, snake or anything else.

I've heard of some people trying to feed their cats a vegetarian diet.

Yeah, I'm not sure I could have a pet that I had to feed live food to. We
who are squeamish just remove ourselves from the 'messy' end of the process
by getting our pet's food from the store, in a bag or can.
Now that I think of it though, we used to have fish that we fed live bait to
(smaller fish and shrimp), and turtles that we gave bugs to sometimes.
Hmmmm.....It really boils down to what you get used to thinking of as 'ok',
or what you are 'conditioned' to think is ok.

I would say that animals eating animals is about life givving too. of
course, that does not mean I can watch it. <grin> I especially cannot watch
when they show the animals hunting baby animals. I love to watch nature
shows, just close my eyes for the killings. I can watch them eating, just
not killing.
and I used to have a snake, and it did not bother me to feed him mice. I
never really watched. just put mouse in the his cage, and left him to eat in
peace. I also had a hdge hog, we would feed him life meal worms. They are
gross looking to me. I could not watch him eating them only cuz they are
icky.

I've heard of that too. and the cats usually end up malnourished from what i
understand. It is possible, just not recommended, and if you insist on
changing the cat's diet to suit your morality, do it only with a vet's
supervision. I'm not coming down on vegetarians, just on those that insist
the whole world, including animals, follow it. I'm more the kind of to each
his own.

I would say it is. considering it once had a heart beat. But if I remember
kosher law right, fish is considered a neutral food, it can be eaten with
both meat and dairy with no problems. But I could be wrong, it's been a
while since i've looked into it.

You don't like watching Animal Snuff? The Kennedy Space Center racoon
that made it halfway across a canal before it got gatored. Six crocs
all trying to pull down the same zebra. A pod of orcas killing a blue
whale. A starving male polar bear killing and eating a cub. THen there
is the live entertainment. Cat killing rabbits. Car killing deer.
stuff like that. I used to hunt rabbits with my cat. I would hide
under a bush and the cat would herd one my way. I would slap it in the
direction of the cat and she would grab it. I would cook it up and we
would share it.
